15. NW Java Independent Components upgrade possible to higher version without touching other NW? Need Solution Manager ADS Special Insights ?

Most confusion of Basis persons?

Considering ADS as an example. 

ADSSAP is an OS Independent Standalone Software Component without any SCA dependencies. 

✨For all independent components, especially ADS, Alignment w.r.t NW SP required. 

Example:

Case 1: If your system is NW 7.5 SP25, then ADSSAP must also be in SP25 Any PL.

✨Each NW SP will have corresponding SAP ADS SP version released.

✨Unlike ABAP Components, we don't need all mid PLs to update from your current PL to targeted PL. You can just download and update by using targeted PL(ex latest).

If we need to update ADS SP25 PL 1 to ADS SP25 PL8 to overcome vulnerability fixes, we can use telnet (easy) method as well as official manually prepared directory method and update the same.

Telnet can be chosen as the easiest way.

Case 2:

If our java system is on lower NW SP - Say 7.5 SP <25, then only way is to perform SUM Java SP Update from your current version 7.5 SP <25 to 7.5 SP 25.

Ensure to add/checkbox ADS as well (available in Non ABAP during maintenance planner file selection)

We can use "Update Netweaver" Option - SAP NETWEAVER 7.5 & Add Java Patches option (to include latest PLs) in Maintenance Planner for planning the activity.

Note:

If you try to install/update ADS SP25 SAY PL05 with having different NW SP (Say NW SP24), then it might result in "Adverse Effect/Unknown impact" - Not an recommended procedure.

For the first time in history 📜, SAP released with different levels in NW 7.5 and ADS SP level for Solution Manager 7.2 SP21.

NW 7.5 Java Stack SP32
ADS SP29

For Solution Manager system - MP generation, we can't manually select ADS levels. It's predefined by default. It will pick ADS29 only as SAP released with the same.

Same applies for usual NW Java Stack as well, However, you can notice ADS version would be as same as NW SP level including NW SP32 Java Stack - ADS SP32. 

For Solution Manager system SP21, difference in release levels might be due to short delay in release of ADS SP32 level (One month after NW SP32 released).

Hence, SAP used older version (same) of Solman SP20 which is ADS SP29 for Solman 7.2 SP21 as well.

No worries !!!

SAP would have definitely checked compatibility on Solman 7.2 SP21 with ADS SP29 and released the same. It can't be deselected/changed as well as SAP released with the same.
We can use the same.
